Humphries, Jones rally to win World Cup bobsled finale

IGLS, Austria (AP) Kaillie Humphries and Lolo Jones rallied in the second heat to win the women’s World Cup bobsled season finale Sunday, a race in which the U.S. grabbed the gold and silver medals.
Humphries and Jones had the fastest time in that second and final heat, moving up from third place and beating teammates Elana Meyers Taylor and Lake Kwaza by four-hundredths of a second. Humphries and Jones finished in 1 minute, 47.07 seconds; Meyers Taylor and Kwaza crossed the line in 1:47.11.
It was the 27th career World Cup women’s bobsled victory for Humphries, and the eighth time Jones has helped a sled earn a medal in her last 12 World Cup starts.

KOENIGSSEE, Germany (AP) Kaillie Humphries got her second win in as many attempts in a monobob sled this season on Saturday, leading a gold-silver finish for USA Bobsled and Skeleton.
Humphries had the fastest time in both heats and finished in 1 minute, 46.75 seconds. She was 0.62 seconds ahead of Elana Meyers Taylor of the U.S., who took second for her first monobob medal.
Stephanie Schneider of Germany was third. Meyers Taylor trailed Schneider by 0.03 seconds after the first heat, then posted a second-run time that was 0.16 seconds faster than Schneider’s.

Germany s Francesco Friedrich continued to make history on the final day of the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) World Cup after his team broke the four-man bobsleigh track record in St Moritz in Switzerland.
Friedrich yesterday set a new record for World Cup wins after victory in the two-man event and after winning today, now has 48 wins to his name.
He surpassed the previous record holder, the retired women s driver Sandra Kiriasis, also of Germany.
His new track record was set in the second run, with the new best being a time of 1min 04.75sec.
Friedrich and his team of Martin Grothkopp, Alexander Schüller and Thorsten Margis, held off a strong Austrian side piloted by Benjamin Maier, to win another gold medal.

Germany s Francesco Friedrich will look to continue a strong run of form in the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) World Cup with the two-man and four-man bobsleigh events set for St Moritz in Switzerland this weekend.
Events start tomorrow and are due to end on Sunday (January 17).
Friedrich and his respective push athletes Alexander Schüller and Thorsten Margis, have won eight of the nine two-man events this season, the other won by Friedrich s closest rival this season - his compatriot, Johannes Lochner.
Other contenders for the event include Switzerland s Michael Vogt and Latvia s Oskars Ķibermanis, the latter winning silver on three occasions so far this season.
