MET Group increased volume of traded gas by 43 percent in 2020

Swiss-based MET Group increased the volume of traded natural gas by 43 percent, amounting to 71 BCM, and the company’s consolidated revenue reached EUR 11.2 billion in 2020 despite a challenging market environment. The Trading and Wholesale Division overperformed in 2020, mainly driven by Western European wholesale-related trading activity which successfully monetised market opportunities in the volatility-driven commodity price environment. Natural gas prices decreased at the end of 2019 and – with the economic downturn accompanying the Covid pandemic – remained low during most of 2020. In spite of this challenging environment, MET Group’s consolidated revenue reached EUR 11.2 billion and the company maintained its profitability. Due to the more intense wholesale activity, the total volume of traded natural gas expanded significantly, amounting to 71 BCM (billion cubic metres) in 2020, bringing a 43 percent growth compared to the previous year’s 50 BCM.

MET Group appoints Christian Hürlimann as Renewables CEO

Swiss-based European energy company MET Group announces the appointment of a new Renewables Chief Executive Officer effective as of 1 May 2021. Christian Hürlimann will support MET’s renewables expansion strategy. Christian Hürlimann joins MET Group starting on 1 May 2021. Hürlimann will be responsible for leading the expansion, integration and management of MET’s renewable energy portfolio. MET considers the growth of renewable power generation as a key part of its business strategy going forward, supporting the transition to green energy in Europe. MET Group CEO, Benjamin Lakatos said: “We aim to become a significant market player in renewables primarily in Central and Eastern Europe, increasing our renewable portfolio to 500+ megawatts by 2023. The onboarding of Christian Hürlimann will support us in strengthening our renewables operations and driving our ambitious growth plans.”

MET Group launches biogas power plant in Serbia

MET Group, through its 51% joint venture PEPO Energy, has launched a 1.2 MW biogas power plant in Serbia. PEPO Energy, a joint venture between Switzerland-based energy company MET Group and Arhar Teh, a local firm in the north-eastern Serbian town of Novo Milosevo, has constructed and commenced operations of a green energy power plant which utilises residue agricultural biomass for biogas production, which in turn generates electricity and heat. The plant has a design capacity of 1.2 MW. MET Group entered the PEPO project in May 2020, acquiring 51% of the equity and providing the necessary project finance.
