A northern Iowa man wanted for murder is in custody after a standoff with police in Algona.
Benjamin Gonzalez, 38, of Mason City was arrested around 4 p.m. Monday. He s charged with first-degree murder for the March 31 shooting death of a Mason City man who officials have not yet identified.
A warrant was issued last week for Gonzalez after the shooting, and police warned that he should be considered armed and dangerous.
Algona Police Chief Kendall Pals said the department received information from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Monday that Gonzalez was possibly staying with relatives in town, the Globe Gazette reported.

Mason City, IA – The man wanted for last week’s murder of a Mason City man was arrested on Monday afternoon after a standoff with authorities in Algona.
The Mason City Police Department says at around 4 o’clock, 38-year-old Benjamin Gonzalez was taken into custody on a first-degree murder warrant. He’s accused of the shooting death last Wednesday night of 36-year-old Michael Creviston in the area of 3rd Northwest and North Jefferson. Gonzalez is being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail on $1 million cash-only bond pending an initial court date. If convicted of first-degree murder, Gonzalez would face a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the opportunity for parole.

An Iowa man wanted in connection with a murder in Mason City last week was taken into custody Monday afternoon in Algona.
According to a release from the Mason City Police Department, an arrest warrant for 37-year-old Benjamin Gonzalez of Mason City was issued on March 31st after law enforcement began investigating the death of 36-year-old Michael Creviston. Creviston was found after a shooting was reported just west of the downtown area.
Gonzalez was taken into custody around 4 P.M. Monday after law enforcement blocked off an area on the northwest side of Algona.
