Power plants in quake-hit areas now online

MANILA - Major power plants in Mountain Province and Benguet that went on outage on Wednesday due to the magnitude 7 earthquake that hit the northern parts of Luzon were connected back to the grid Thursday morning, the Department of Energy (DOE) said in a statement. "As of 11 a.m. on 28 July 2022, all power generation plants are under normal operation, including Hedcor hydro plants (FLS and Sabangan) in Mountain Province that went on outage due to the earthquake," the DOE said. According to the website of Hedcor Group, the Sabangan Hydro that utilizes power from Chico River has a net capacity of 14.96 megawatts (MW). On the other hand, the FLS Hydro in Benguet is harnessing power from the Bakun River that can provide a power supply of 6.4 MW. The 9.5-MW La Trinidad Hydro Unit 1 in Benguet also went offline on Wednesday afternoon due to line correction following the impact of the earthquake.
