The incident took place at around 9:30 am on Saturday, just a few hours after the accused Zahid, who is a 22-year-old man, reportedly harassed the daughter of Anwar Hussain, who is the deceased.
“If the Union Minister gives time, we will prevail upon the Central government to issue a gazette notification related to the Upper Krishna Project,” the Chief Minister said.
“Casteism and Islamophobia are causing hate crimes and are tearing our society apart,” a statement by Bahutva Karnataka, a civic group that organised the protest at Bengaluru’s Town Hall, said.
Despite efforts by officials from the Mandya District Administration on August 30 to persuade the farmers and Melkote MLA to withdraw their protests, the farmers did not budge.
