Says new FBCCI president Star Business Report Star Business Report
The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) would give highest priority to the protection of the cottage, micro, small and medium enterprises (CMSMEs), as they are the worst hit by the ongoing pandemic.
Md Jashim Uddin, the newly elected president of the apex trade body, made the comment at his introductory meeting with journalists at the federation office in Dhaka yesterday.
He took over charge of the FBCCI for the 2021-23 tenure on Wednesday.
Although the government has allocated Tk 23,000 crore to save the CMSMEs across the country, a majority of them are yet to receive the loan from the stimulus fund because of banks reluctance, unbanked entrepreneurs and stringent conditions attached to the loans, he said.

Biscuit exports booming
With most businesses suffering a deep wound inflicted by the coronavirus pandemic, biscuit makers in Bangladesh have a different story to share.
The crispy food, liked by people from all walks of life, has seen its demand grow both in domestic and export markets as many consumers have stayed indoors and shunned eating out.
After posting 10 per cent year-on-year growth in the fiscal year of 2019-20, which included two pandemic-hit quarters, the upward trend of shipment of biscuits has continued in the current fiscal year as well. Biscuits exports almost doubled to $31.5 million in the July-December period from $16.6 million in the corresponding period a year ago, data from the Export Promotion Bureau showed.
