Senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has termed the party s debacle in West Bengal Assembly elections as a humiliating loss . Chowdhury, who heads the Congress Bengal unit, said that the party needs to come out of Twitter and Facebook and admitted that there is a need for a change in the functioning.
In an interview with The Indian Express, Chowdhury said that he cannot expect any bright prospects in this present situation . However, things certainly will change because the credibility of the Narendra Modi government has been reducing day after day, he told the daily.

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee will take oath as West Bengal Chief Minister for the third consecutive term on Wednesday, May 5. She was unanimously elected as the leader of the TMC Legislative Council at a party meet in Kolkata on Monday. Ministers in Mamata s new cabinet are likely to be sworn in on May 6 by Pro-tem speaker Subrata Mukherjee. Later, Biman Banerjee will hold the post of speaker, reports said.

New Delhi: The eighth and final phase of voting is being held in Bengal today amid the growing menace of Covid that is spreading fast in the state. The election is being held on 35 seats lying across Malda, Murshidabad, Birbhum and Kolkata.

Six seats in Malda, 11 each in Murshidabad and Birbhum and seven seats in Kolkata are voting in this phase. Polling is being held across 11,860 centres. The voters will choose among 283 candidates, 35 of whom are women.
Two ministers Shashi Panji and Sadhan Pande - are seeking re-election in this phase. All eyes are on Birbhum district, which has a history of poll-related violence.
