The ‘consensus’ decision of the protesting teachers came after the majority opted for hunger strike as their next mode of agitation during their meeting at Solidarity Park, Kohima, on day four of the sit-in on Thursday. ‘The 1166 (teachers) had a general meeting and 99% had suggested the hunger strike. Based on the views and opinions of the members, the ANATG-2015 has declared an indefinite hunger strike from Sep. 29 onwards’, Spokesperson Bendangtemsu Ozukum said. He said the last four days were “long enough and we are very much dismayed by the attitude of the officials. “There will be no more negotiations. Spokesperson of ANATG-2015, Bendangtemsu Ozukum, said it was “very unfortunate” for the government to direct them to go back to their respective classes. Such communication is “unbecoming” of the government and ‘we have no intention of going back’, he said. He added that they had come for a “legitimate demand” and were asking for their “rights”. ‘There are also teachers who have come from far-flung areas. If there is no response from the government then the central office of the ad hoc teachers would take the matter’, he added. He requested the government to “understand” them and come to a conclusion. Hundreds of ad hoc teachers from across the state gathered at the Naga Solidarity Park, walked towards the Secretariat and staged a peaceful dharna outside the Secretariat Plaza in Kohima on Monday. The ANATG-2015 comprising 1166 teachers, had in 2018, held organized a series of agitations including a hunger strike, demanding the state government to regularise their contract services. Back then, the government had settled the matter granting them a scale of pay (sixth Revision of Pay – ROP) with “no assurance” to meet their demand. However, the teachers are of the opinion that granting a scale of pay was just an “appeasement policy” and now, they are not willing to settle for anything less than the regularisation of services. So, they r
