Karachi: The Sindh government has formally launched the Benazir Mazdoor Smart Card (BMSC) to register over 2.5 million labourers in the province. It will provide them with their due rights and social security privileges.
A ceremony was held here at Sindh Chief Minister House on the occasion of the Labour Day to formally launch the BMSC. Chairman of Pakistan Peoples’ Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, was the chief guest on the occasion who also distributed the BMSCs to the labourers.
Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Labour Minister Saeed Ghani said Sindh had become the first province in Pakistan to launch a system for issuance of smart cards for registration of the labourers.

The Sindh government distributed the Benazir Mazdoor Card to labourers on Friday.
At a ceremony held at the Chief Minister s House, the provincial government launched the card under which labourers across Sindh would be entitled to avail benefits such as education, health and financial assistance under the Sindh Workers Welfare Fund Act 2014 and amendment 2018 provided they register themselves with the Sindh Employees Social Security Institution (SESSI) and pay contribution at the rate of six percent of the minimum wage fixed by the provincial government.
KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Saturday asked the federal government to direct the Federal Board of Revenue to stop collection of the Workers Welfare Fund immediately and the funds collected so far should be transferred to Sindh government.
He said this while addressing the distribution ceremony of Benazir Mazdoor Card organised by the labour department here at the CM House. The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, provincial ministers, industrialist, labour leaders and workers.
Mr Bhutto-Zardari said that the PPP government in Sindh was observing Labour Day by launching the ‘Benazir Mazdoor Card’ under which workers would be able to avail all necessary benefits and facilities such as education, health, marriage grants, financial assistance, scholarships and pensions.

The launching ceremony of Benazir Mazdoor Card through National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) was held at the Chief Minister House in Karachi.
Under the scheme, over 600,000 registered workers in the province would be able to obtain all necessary facilities and benefits including education, health, marriage grants, financial assistance, and scholarships. Furthermore, the family of the labourer will be given compensation in case of accidental death. This programme includes all types of labourers, including construction workers, hotel workers, domestic workers or anyone working on daily wages across the province.
