A ceremony Saturday at the The Wall That Heals in Hilo drew a huge crowd of veterans, families, friends and people looking to honor the veterans — living and dead — of the Vietnam War.
Dozens of volunteers spent Tuesday morning assembling “The Wall That Heals” with the help of Vietnam veterans and family and friends of fallen soldiers depicted on the wall.
Today kicks off a week of events honoring veterans lost during the Vietnam War. The wall, standing in a grassy field along the Hilo Bayfront, will be open to visitation 24 hours a day and a closing ceremony will take place on Saturday. The events are open and free to the public.
