The San Francisco architect designed the prototype for the Apple store, working alongside Steve Jobs, and the first 100 stores. He also designed the boarding area at the new United Airlines terminal at San Francisco International Airport, the west wing at San Francisco s Moscone Center, and the terminal at Mineta San Jose International Airport. His firm, with 46 offices housing 4,000 employees in 14 countries, also designed the Shanghai Tower, the second-tallest building in the world. Gensler died this week at 85, the San Francisco Chronicle reports, telling the story of how this regular guy built his husband-and-wife firm into a global powerhouse.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA The sight of an angler fish above sea level and in perfectly preserved condition startled visitors to Crystal Cove State Beach over the weekend.
One local expert identified it as a football fish, a far from a rare type of angler fish, but rare in that it somehow remained intact from its 3,000-foot journey off the ocean floor. That identification has yet to be verified by Fish and Wildlife.

Beachgoer Ben Estes found an anglerfish at Newport Beach.
A beachgoer came across a rare find on his morning stroll when he saw a weird looking fish washed ashore at Newport Beach.
Ben Estes informed the state park rangers and lifeguards at Crystal Cove State Park about a bizarre fish he encountered Friday morning.
