New Year s Eve in Kathu, Northern Cape, was an uneventful one especially with the new lockdown regulations.
The highlight of the evening was the arrest of a 33-year-old male shop owner who was charged with selling fireworks without a licence.
His R9k loot was confiscated by Sgt Ben Eiman and Constable Beatrice Canchibatho.
Just the day before, the duo arrested a 66-year-old male driver. The man was allegedly driving drunk with an assortment of dangerous weapons in his vehicle.
NORTHERN CAPE – Members of group 2 attached to the Kathu Crime Prevention unit tighten the grip on three criminals when they were caught red-handed after robbing a truck driver of his Huawei P9 cellphone valued at R6000-00.
On Wednesday, 16 December 2020 at 20:20 while conducting patrols in the greater Kathu area, Sgt Ben Eiman and Constables Blythe Jantjies and Beatrice Cachibatho apprehended three males after they allegedly robbed a truck driver in the parking area of the Kameeldoring Cafe.
The three suspects aged 24, 26, and 27 respectively were arrested and charged with robbery and will soon appear in the Kathu magistrate’s court.
The cellphone was recovered and handed over to the rightful owner.
