New truck gets a workout

The Belmond Fire Department recently took delivery of its new tanker truck. The Freightliner diesel replaces a 37-year-old truck that had a bad engine.   The new vehicle is owned by the rural fire association. Its holds 3,000 gallons of water that can be dumped into a portable tank in less than two minutes. It also has three hoses, so the truck can be used to fight a fire directly, according to Fire Chief Dean Adcock.   The cost of the new pumper was approximately $300,000, with $60,000 coming from the estate of Marge Guis and the balance coming from the rural fire association.    Firemen were called five miles northwest of town April 1 for a garden fire that got out of control and threatened a house. It was put out easily.
