“Firefighters today are on the line working very hard to improve those containment numbers,” said Sean Ferguson, LACoFD Public Information Officer on Thursday. “However they are battling high temperatures, low relative humidity and at times dusty conditions.”

Due to accurate infrared mapping flights conducted along the fire’s perimeter, the fire size had been downgraded from an earlier estimate to 640 acres as of Thursday morning, according to Fire officials.
“The day was going normally and then almost instantly, it was chaos,” Smith said. “It first seemed like it was far away, but we soon realized it was very close and travelling at us very quickly. At one point we could see flames on the hills right next to our house.”

A brush fire in Castaic that has burned around 650 acres and is zero percent contained has prompted authorities to issue mandatory evacuations for several streets in the area.
The North Fire was first reported at around 1:45 p.m. near The Old Road, east of the Golden State (5) Freeway. The fire began as a one acre brush fire that quickly spread to 50 acres by 3:20 p.m.
Mandatory evacuations were issued for those residents north and west of West Hills Drive, north of Iron Village Drive, north and west of Tesoro Del Valle and north of Copper Hill Drive due to the North Fire, the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff s Station announced.

Firefighters battled a brush fire in Castaic Wednesday afternoon that prompted evacuation warnings for nearby homes and businesses, but had to restrict their ground attack due to the fire’s proximity to a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad training facility.
Mandatory evacuations were ordered for north and west of West Hills Drive, north of Iron Village Drive, north and west of Tesoro Del Valle and north of Copper Hill Drive. Rye Canyon Loop remained under voluntary evacuation status as of 6:45 p.m.
Additional evacuation warnings were issued for Bellows Court, Via Patina and Platinum Court areas, as the fire was reportedly moving to the east. Residents in the area should anticipate the possibility of evacuation, Los Angeles County Fire Department officials announced late Wednesday afternoon.
