BELLEFONTE Downtown Bellefonte Inc., an organization which aims to support business growth and community revitalization in Bellefonte, held its second annual award ceremony recently, recognizing the businesses, organizations and individuals that make Bellefonte a great place to live, visit and do business.
Nominations for five different awards Volunteer of the Year Award, Business of the Year Award, #LoveBFT Award, Renaissance Award, and the Award for Resilience were made by members of the community in the fall.

Young and Canagarajah are two of 21 voting members on the commission, which was created by an executive order signed by the governor last July. The commission’s purpose is to improve policing practices within law enforcement agencies under the governor’s jurisdiction, with a focus on promoting transparency, fairness and accountability. The commission will examine events and conduct reviews of policies, practices and procedures relating to use of force and biased-based policing and make recommendations for implementation of corrective measures.
“Our local community has spent years working alongside law enforcement to put systems in place that are designed to promote fairness and accountability within municipal police departments,” said Young. “Reformation processes such as these are crucial in combating bias and increasing equity for historically disenfranchised communities.
