More Snow Expected Thursday in Centre County

Another round of snow has arrived in Centre County. The National Weather Service at State College has issued a winter weather advisory for most of central Pennsylvania, including all of Centre County, from 1 a.m. Thursday through 10 a.m. Friday. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches are expected. Hazardous travel conditions could impact the morning and evening commutes, according to the advisory. AccuWeather is forecasting 4 to 8 inches of snow for the State College area, with the heaviest snow coming between 9 a.m. and noon on Thursday then 9 p.m. Thursday to 1 a.m. Friday. Here’s a look at some of the closings and other impacts announced so far:

Ice Storm Expected to Impact Centre County Monday Night and Tuesday Morning

Northern Centre County, meanwhile, is under a winter storm warning until 1 p.m. Tuesday. “Significant icing” is expected Monday night into Tuesday for the southern part of the county, according to NWS, with ice accumulations between one-quarter and one-half inch as well as an additional 1 to 2 inches of snow and sleet. Precipitation Monday evening will start as snow and sleet before turning to sleet and freezing rain, then predominantly freezing rain which will last through the night and early morning. Some areas may get warm enough for the precipitation to turn to plain rain by the end of the storm.

Centre hears breakdown of CARES distribution | News, Sports, Jobs

CHRIS MORELLI cmorelli@lockhaven.com BELLEFONTE Over the past several months, Centre County government has made the most of the CARES Act county relief block grant. At Tuesday’s Board of Commissioners’ meeting, COVID-19 grant coordinator Mary Kay Williams presented a “high level overview” of how the funds have been distributed throughout the county. Williams, who joined the staff “five months and one week ago,” talked at length about the funds and broke down the process of distribution. “We covered a lot of ground together,” Williams said. “I really feel so grateful that so much of it was successful. The main success of this whole initiative was the great teamwork that we have.”
