FSU presidential search can go on, Florida chancellor Marshall Criser says

View Comments State University System Chancellor Marshall Criser III said Wednesday that the presidential search process at Florida State University should continue, despite a Board of Governors member s suggestion to halt the process. Criser’s letter was in response to an email Tuesday from BOG member Alan Levine. Levine raised concerns about a letter sent last week from Belle Wheelan, president of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. In her letter, Wheelan cautioned Board of Governors chairman Syd Kitson that forwarding the name of Florida Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran as a presidential candidate could threaten FSU’s accreditation status since it would pose a conflict of interest.

Halt and review FSU presidential search, BOG member says

Halt and review FSU presidential search, BOG member says Board of Governors member Alan Levine is no longer “concerned” that an accrediting body may have influenced the Florida State University presidential search. He’s convinced. And he wants the job search put on hold until it’s cleared up. At issue is a letter sent by the president of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges the association that accredits FSU to the Board of Governors Richard Corcoran’s candidacy. In the letter, SACSCOC President Belle Wheelan said it was improper for Corcoran to seek the job while holding a seat on the Board of Governors. She also commented on Corcoran’s fitness for the position and insinuated FSU’s accreditation would be on the line if his application advanced.

BOG member alleges improper influence on FSU presidential search

BOG member alleges improper influence on FSU presidential search A letter from FSU s accrediting body may have killed Richard Corcoran s bid. A member of the State University System Board of Governors believes the prospect of disaccreditation may have influenced Florida State University’s search to replace exiting President John Thrasher. Alan Levine sent a letter to Board of Governors Chancellor Marshall Criser III on Sunday questioning whether a letter from the president of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges led to Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran being eliminated from contention. As Education Commissioner, Corcoran holds a seat on the SUS Board of Governors, which must approve the eventual pick for FSU President.
