His first car, he called it a quadra cycle. Thats his wife clara. He began with an idea that most people thought would not work but he made it work. The tools he used were common sense, ingenuity and perseverance. Along with a natural instinct for knowing how to put the sheens together and make them run. He was born into a world of limited horizons. Though he left the firm that might have been his heritage coming never lost his love for the land and the everlasting cycle of seed time and harvest print what he accomplished helped men put the burden of work on machines and broke the ofriers of space and time, islation and difference mechanical genius help change the lives of people everywhere, he sought to preserve and a permanent form, a record of the world around him and his effort widening interest in it

Henry fords mirror of america offers a glimpse of life in the United States from 1914 to 1945. Henry ford created the Film Department to document current events, culture, and produce educational and industrial films. In the Ford Motor Company 1963, donated over 5000 films to the National Archives as a gift to the american people. The National Archives produced this documentary that year to show highlights of the ford collection. In so many ways, henry ford was a simple man. He liked to go camping with his friends. Org] American History tv recently visited longwood university. Next Michael Gordon talks about richmond in 1865 and what historians can learn from photographs. His talk is just under an hour. Our next speaker is Michael Gordon. He did a great presentation. Amazing photographs. You will see more of them today. He grew up in richmond. Working for the National Park service. He has been a permanent ranger and historian and Richmond National Battlefield Park since 2003. One thing he is well known for his his website, civil war richmond. I tell my students there are so much junk and garbage online in terms of civil war sources, this is one of the best websites relating to the civil war i have ever seen. I got a lot of good stuf
Yesterday got the magazine of virginia history and biography. The new issue is on lincolns visit to richmond at the end of the war. There is an excellent article. The talk this evening is on photo forensics. Richmond, 1865. Please welcome him. [applause] Michael Gorman i am miced up. Can anybody hear me . I hate podiums. First things first. Was anybody here for the last time i spoke in 2010 . Wow. We got some new people and some veterans. This is great. I was thinking about, what did i talk about in 2010 . I dont remember. So this is a completely new taking what i love to do picking apart the photographs. Finding the stories within them. The best of. There are over 500 images i could show you. I am showing you about 60. If you want more, we will hang out sometime and do that. [applause] [laughter] photo forensics. You might also call this a love letter to the library of congress. The reason is, in 2003 or so the library of congress digitized their original negatives and put them online
Tomorrow will be legislative movement on a bill that would give federal workers who have been furloughed of back pay that it will sign. And so of the dozen or so bills the House Republicans already passed, this ishe one that the administration and democrats a fictive a signal that they are open to which is led to a number of House Republicans say they want to pay the government workers but they wont open the National Park to find cancer researcher things like that. The big story also today was lunch. President obama and the vicepresident taking a walk from the white house. A lot of security involved in that, to have lunch. In that president obama said that if only the speaker would put a bill to fund the government on the house for that it would pass and would fund the government and that is the only way that we get out of this. To that the speaker says, no, the congress here on the house side will continue to pass smaller bills that fund certain specific portions of the government, no
