Pinellas working to restore beaches washed away a second time by December storm

Last weekend's unexpected storm system took a toll on the beaches of Pinellas County that had been restored after Hurricane Idalia earlier this year.

Before the current Route 2 was built in 1963, the old Route 2 in and out of Gardner headed from the Westminster line down East Broadway and then out to Templeton via West Broadway. Both thoroughfares featured numerous gas stations in their day. East Broadway 80 East Broadway – Kendall’s Service Station. Harry Kendall operated a gas station at this location the longest from 1952 to 1955. Initially, it was brothers Stan and Elroy Pettengill who ran Stan and Roy’s Service Station there in 1946. Later, it was Shell Oil Co., Richard Brothers Service Station and a business owned by Raymond Bourn in 1950.
