Bell County Master Gardenerâs Association volunteers said they have noticed a spike in call volume in the aftermath of the severe winter storm that left millions of Texans without water and power for days.
âThe concern Iâm getting most on the help desk right now â everybodyâs worried about their live oaks,â Master Gardener volunteer Kathy Love, of Holland, said.
âThe Live Oaks are probably going to be OK if theyâre mature. What we tell them is thatâs leaf burn. The freeze just burned them. So theyâre going to drop the leaves completely. Itâs the time of year when live oaks are going through their cycle anyway, but people are concerned because they dropped (their leaves) all at once which is not what they normally do. But they should be fine. The only other thing is, on young trees, you may want to do a little fertilizer.â
