A tower of water, caused by a broken water line, was seen spraying Wednesday morning from the abandoned Hilton Garden Inn in Killeen.
The Hilton Garden Inn, 2704 O. W. Curry Drive, in Killeen, has been vacant for months since a fire destroyed the building Feb. 19 displacing hundreds of hotel occupants.
City of Killeen spokeswoman Hilary Shine told the Herald the water leak was caused by a contractor Wednesday morning.

Bell County continues to be a popular destination for people moving to Texas, but a limited number of available homes is driving up house prices. And, according to local experts, that means higher appraisal values and an increase â unless rates are lowered â in property taxes.
âProperty values in Bell County correlate directly to the real estate market,â said Billy White, chief appraiser at the Tax Appraisal District of Bell County. âThe job of the appraisal district is to mirror what is happening in the real estate market.â
Since 2011, the number of homes sold in Bell County has increased substantially each year.

Killeen City Council narrowly OKs Danielle Singh as new assistant city manager
By a narrow 4-3 vote, the Killeen City Council voted Tuesday to approve Executive Director of Public Works Danielle Singh as the new assistant city manager.
Voting in favor of Singhâs appointment were Councilmembers Terry Clark, Steve Harris Debbie Nash-King and Ken Wilkerson.
Councilwoman Melissa Brown, Councilman Rick Williams and Councilwoman Shirley Fleming voted against the motion.
Singh will be filling the position that has been vacant since David Ellison retired in late October 2020.
Brown said it is not the councilâs job to approve someoneâs position because they like them and that there has been a breach of trust against the council, which had not been informed of the hire in advance by City Manager Kent Cagle.
Seven weeks later, the cause of the February Hilton Garden Inn fire may be lost in the hotelâs ashes after fire officials found no cause for the blaze.
On the evening of Feb. 19, the Hilton Garden Inn, located at 2704 O. W. Curry Drive in Killeen, was seen fully engulfed in flames as dozens of onlookers watched from the nearby Academy Sports and Outdoors parking lot.
At 8:27 p.m. Feb. 19, the Killeen Fire Department was sent to the hotel and upon arrival saw fire coming from the roof of the fourth floor of the building, according to a news release from the fire department.
