Councilors exercised the right of first refusal to purchase the club and asked the mayor to appropriate $315K to buy the land

FRAMINGHAM An environmental assessment of a former Northside pool and tennis club that city councilors are interested in buying is set to begin soon. The City Council last month exercised Framingham s first right of refusal to buy the Belknap Pool and Tennis Club and asked Mayor Yvonne Spicer to set aside $315,000 to purchase the property. Councilors plan to form a committee of neighbors, community members, school leaders and Parks and Recreation officials to determine a future use for the land. Framingham officials were notified of a purchase-and-sale agreement between the pool’s current owner and another party in November. However, the city had the right of first refusal to buy it because the property is classified under state law as recreation land and taxed at no more than 25% of its full market value.
