It was a bittersweet moment when Tania Februarie found out she’d passed matric. Tania, from Delft in Cape Town, was meant to finish her final year of high school along with her son but the teen died before they could fulfil their dream together.
“I feel super proud but also sad at the same time, knowing my son and I would’ve been celebrating our results together,” Tania tells YOU.
The 36-year-old mom fell pregnant with Jaden when she was in matric and put her studies on hold to take care of him. When Jaden started Grade 12 at Belhar High School last year, Tania went back to school to finish her studies alongside Jaden to motivate him. But everything came crashing down when he developed a severe respiratory infection and passed away at the age of 17 last year.
