A memorandum of cooperation and strategic cooperation was signed at the
headquarters of the NOC of Belarus. The ceremony was attended by Belavia Director General Igor Cherginets and President of the NOC of Belarus
Viktor Lukashenko.
At present Belavia has 13 aircraft, with the average age at 11.2 years. “It is quite a good figure. Aircraft of Western manufacture can be operated forever, as a matter of principle. The notion of air worthiness is the only stumbling block. Aircraft can be used to transport passengers until they are 30-35 years old,” Igor Cherginets said.
According to the CEO, Belavia is in negotiations with the Russian Federation. “We are in very intensive talks. We are preparing agreements with Russia's United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) on buying MC-21 aircraft and Sukhoi Superjet new aircraft," he said.
The first flight will be launched on 11 August. Initially, flights between Minsk and Delhi will be operated weekly (on Fridays). From 20 September, the airline intends to increase the frequency of flights to twice a week.
