works on national security issues at the white house counsel s office. now, he previously worked for devin nunes. remember, key to point out here, the announcement from nunes set off a firestorm of controversy around him and around his committee s investigation into russian interference. nunes had briefed the president before sharing that material with his democratic colleagues on the intelligence committee. of course, those colleagues supposed to be working hand in hand with him here. that led to accusations that nunes was working with the white house and lending some to lend some credibility to trump s claims that he was wiretapped. this new report from the new york times, if true, could certainly inflame those accusations. we should say this reporting from the times based on sources described only as several current american officials. as i mentioned before, nbc has not independently confirmed the report. the report also says that these officials, played a role in providing t
goldman sachs executive. but she also has chops right here in washington, dc, going all the way back to the george w. bush administration, where at the state department for a period, she s an arabic speaker, an egyptian-american well-known in washington. and the administration sort of rolled her out in public just last week when the deputy crown prince of saudi arabia was here visiting with the president, she was in the room also. so they are hoping she can help h.r. mcmaster. he is being positioned as very on board with dina powell coming in and making this move on the national security team, john. all right, joe johns for us at the white house, thanks for the update, joe, appreciate it. the fbi director briefed the leaders of the senate judiciary committee about president trump s claims of being wiretapped. i ll speak to a key member of that committee, coming up.
that american was picked up on the communication and at the end of the day, the white house will bait and switch us. they ll claim that that collection of americans on a russian phone is an indication that those americans were wiretapped and, wolf, that s nonsense. we heard something along those lines from congressman sean duffy trying to explain that. dana, spicer, sean spicer also saying that when president trump tweeted about being wiretapped by president, he was referring more broadly to surveillance. everything the president says needs to be left open to that kind of interpretation? i hope not, but certainly it sounds like in this case that is what his spokesman is saying. much like his former campaign manager corey liew endowski the president shouldn t be taken literally. he s the president of the united states. when he uses a word and a term like wiretapping which is very specific and has legal ramifications, particularly when
to do. they could take a action for which there is no contingency plan. there s been rumors they could cut the state of new york, 2, $3 billion. i can t make up 2, $3 billion. it would wreak havoc in this sta state. so it s their move and i want to see what they come up with. governor andrew cuomo. thanks for being on this morning. good luck. thanks for having me, mika. let s bring in nbc news national correspondent mr. incredulous, peter alexander. peter, your face when you were listening to sean spicer speak you looked incredulous. here you are pressing him on a number of issues. what did he have to say about the president s claims of being wiretapped, we ll run some of it. bottom line we were trying to zoom in on the white house a week after white house said
reality in american politics. he has done that again and again, on birtherism. on the death of scalia, justice scalia. on vaccination. on topic after topic. i think it s damage to the republican, and undermines the notion of truth and verification. there are some republicans to some extent speaking out, right, you have senator lindsey graham for example, just said he is going to make an announcement tomorrow about his request for more information to back this claim about president trump made about being wiretapped. here s what he said. let s play that sound. they don t honor this request and give us an answer, then i would say that we need a joint select committee because the regular order is not working. michael, do you see that as some evidence there are some republicans willing to stand up and say we need actual facts? no. and i think particularly in the senator there are a handful of republicans including senator graham who really have stood up
