South: Fighting continued with civilian casualties and displacement Fighting between Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and a non-state armed group (NSAG) continued with reported airstrikes and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) detonated in Hilmand, Kandahar provinces and some parts of Zabul province. In Kandahar province, fighting was reported in the Arghandab, Panjwayi and Zheray districts. In Hilmand province, fighting between ANSF and an NSAG continued with airstrikes reported in Nahr-e-Saraj and Nawa-e-Barakzaiy districts. On 16 February, three civilians were reportedly killed when a rocket hit a house in Khosrabad village in Nawa-e-Barakzaiy district. During the reporting period, in another incident three civilians including two women were killed by an IED detonation in Band-e-Barq area in Nahr-e-Saraj district. Ongoing displacement continues to be reported in contested areas to Lashkargah city with needs assessment ongoing by interagency assessment teams.

At least two civilians were killed and five more were wounded in two separate blasts in the eastern province Nangarhar province on Thursday morning, local officials said.

South: Fighting intensified, 1,660 IDPs received humanitarian assistance Fighting between Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and a non-state armed group (NSAG) continued in Hilmand, Kandahar and Uruzgan provinces. In Kandahar province, fighting was reported in Arghandab, Panjwayi and some parts of Maywand and Dand districts. According to government officials, 800 families (approximately 5,600 people) were displaced by fighting in Arghandab district in the past month. The Operational Coordination Team in Kandahar is working with local authorities to assess the needs of the internally displaced persons (IDPs).    In Uruzgan province, clashes between ANSF and an NSAG intensified in Dehrawud, Gizab and Tirinkot districts. Fighting Reported in Behsud as Team Wraps Up Its Probe Sporadic fighting reported in Hese Awal Behsud district in the central province of Maidan Wardak as the probe team wrapped up their investigation into the clashes in the district that killed at least 12 people, a source said on Friday.  The source said that the clash started when the probe team relocated the provincial police chief from the district where he was under siege by fighters loyal to Alipoor, a local commander.  Two residents of the district were wounded in the clashes, the source said.  “We will not support the central government if they don’t make a wise decision and if perpetrators are not punished,” said Murad Ali Murad, former deputy minister of defense.
