Texas workgroup lays out recommendations for improving suicide prevention measures Eli Kirshbaum | Dec 29, 2020 Share this: The Texas Statewide Behavioral Health Coordinating Council (SBHCC) released its legislative report in November, which presents three broad categories of recommendations for improving the state’s suicide prevention efforts: improving suicide data collection, encouraging informed decision-making and policy development, and decreasing suicide deaths. With the legislative session starting in less than two weeks, this report will be a valuable resource for lawmakers aiming to improve suicide prevention in the state.     The legislative report is the result of HB 3980, a 2019 bill requiring the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) to compile a summary report of information on suicide deaths and attempts in the state, which the SBHCC was required to draw on to create the legislative report.
