Another round is in the books at the 2023 U.S. Championships and we’ve been treated to some cutting tactical blows and positional masterpieces. In the Open Section, we had an all-too-familiar reminder that nobody is safe. Coming off a convincing win with the black pieces against GM Ray Robson, GM Sam Sevian looked to increase his lead with the white pieces against GM Hans Niemann.
As the 2023 U.S. Championships wound down, we had some great games to cap off a great tournament. The players in the Junior and Girls’ junior sections showcased why they are great torchbearers for the next generation of American chess, and the Seniors reminded us just how strong they really are.

The 2023 American Cup kicked off with several decisive games on the first day of action, with Nakamura, Krush, Lee, & Tokhirjonova all taking a one-point lead in their initial matches.
