I want to be more of an uncle to my sons.
Legally, the boys have three uncles: Uncle X, Uncle XX and my husband’s brother, Uncle Not X. All three have kept a safe distance from our family, approximately the width of one continent.
Semi-legally, it gets a little murky. Two dads. No moms. Birth brothers in other adoptive families. There are no rules, so the Fisher-Paulsons have made them up: The adoptive sister of your adoptive brother’s birth brother can be your cousin. This makes the father of your adoptive brother’s birth brother’s sister your uncle.
