the president to reach a deal on debt. default could lead to financial clamity,. the president met congressional leaders back at the white house today for yet another negotiating session. we have reports from nancy cordes, chip reid and anthony mason, nancy, we ll begin with you at the capitol. reporter: good evening. the chairman of the federal reserve had a stark warning for members of congress today. he said if the debt limit isn t raised by august 2, the federal government s cash flow could plummet by 40%, because that s how much the nation borrows. so this is a matter of arithmetic fairly soon after that date, there would have to be significant cuts in social security, medicare, military pay or some combination of those in order to avoid borrowing more money. reporter: here s why. without the ability to borrow, the federal government will take in roughly $172 billion in august. in taxes, fees and other revenue. but its bills will total roughly $306 billion, creatin

tonight starting with anny hong who has the latest information. the good news tonight. we no longer have any more severe thunderstorm watches or warnings in effect. all that is done with. still though a few lingering showers are in the area. take a look at some of the storm reports we got in today. quarter to golf-ball sized hail reported. we had 60 to 70-mile-an-hour wind gusts prompting lots of trees to be downed along washington george parkway, virginia, along the eastbound lanes of interstate 66. a tree following onto there. dc. west lawn of the capitol. quite a bit of damage. live doppler 9000 hd. we are actually a lot quieter in the dc area tonight. we just have clouds out there. no green on there which means no showers. all now into the south just around leonard town and basically the southern virginia area. doppler radar now. wider view showing you all lightening strikes that went through which did cause a lot of damage in a lot of locations. overnight expected most
