THIS week for our new nostalgia feature, we have delved into our archives to bring you more photos from the turn of the millennium. Royal couple the Duke and Duchess of York made an appearance at Cheapside Village Hall, Ascot, in May 2000. Prince Andrew, who lived at neighbouring Sunninghill Park, had been expected to attend the long-awaited exhibition but the duchess’ appearance was a surprise – prompting more discussions about whether the divorced couple would remarry. Sarah, the Duchess of York, talks to children dresssed up in historic costumes Publicity co-ordinator for the event Anthony Wagg said at the time that almost 1,000 people attended, with the pair staying for an hour-and-a-half instead of the allotted half-an-hour.
