The country gun and the city gun | PennLive letters Updated Apr 15, 2021; I read Becky Bennett’s column on rural views about guns and I think she doesn’t understand the urban view. We who live in urban areas don’t want your guns. We understand they are a part of rural culture and we are fine with that. We wouldn’t know what to do with them if we had them. What urban folks want is to feel safe. Safe from two groups of people who can all too often get their hands too easily on guns. Who are they? They are first; those that want to harm themselves and, second; those that want to harm others. I hear all the platitudes from the NRA and others about good gun owners protecting us from bad gun owners, but those folks won’t stop the despondent suicide that shoots himself to stop his pain. Nor will it stop the gangbanger that sprays a house with bullets because someone wore the wrong shoes down a block.
