Tropical Storm Elsa is expected to bring rain and high winds as it makes its way through North Carolina Thursday.
âGenerally, weâre looking at the main impacts being some heavy rain from late Wednesday night through Thursday evening,â said James Danco, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Raleigh.
Elsa had peak winds of 70 mph Tuesday evening, just 4 mph short of becoming a hurricane, as it continued to move toward the northern Florida Gulf Coast where it is expected to make landfall as a Category 1 hurricane Wednesday morning, Danco said. The Gulf Coast was under a hurricane warning Tuesday night as the storm continued to move north at 10 mph.
