P. Roy Vagelos, MD, and his wife, Diana Vagelos, are providing $15 million to support the university's Division of Biology & Biomedical Sciences. The gift will fund undergraduate and graduate efforts in the life sciences. The couple made the gift to honor former Chancellor William H. Danforth, MD, who died last year.

CREVE COEUR- At the end of a winding road in Creve Coeur, just west of St. Louis County, a park now bears the name of Dr. Howard P Venable, the Black ophthalmologist who purchased the land as his own more than 60 years ago. Until this year, the park did not bear his name, but the name of the white mayor who took the property away.

Washington University investigators now have access to a new research tool that allows them to conduct clinical studies using synthetic patient data. Synthetic data produced by the new tool, called MDClone, accurately mimics real patient data without the privacy concerns.
