Urgent message to dog walkers after Malvern Hills sheep attacks

Sheep worrying, which includes chasing, is a criminal offence and dog owners could face a fine or in severe cases, see the destruction of their dog, a spokesperson said. Beck Baker, community and conservation officer, said: We re shocked that so many livestock worrying incidents have occurred over the last week. Each and every incident is distressing for the livestock and the graziers who care for the animals. These incidents can be stopped completely by people putting their dogs on a lead at all times near livestock. We’d like to remind dog walkers that any dog, big or small, docile or aggressive, has the potential to chase or kill livestock so all dogs should be kept on a lead near grazing cattle and sheep.

Malvern Hills Trust warns of BBQ fire risk this weekend

The Malvern Hills Trust is warning BBQs can cause wildfires which can quickly become out of control. Recent dry weather has increased the risk of wildfires on the Malvern Hills and Commons that can be started from a single spark from a BBQ or camp fire. Beck Baker, community and conservation officer said: We’re pleased to see people enjoying the warmer weather and longer evenings but please do this safely by leaving the BBQ at home. The majority of wildfires are started by people either accidentally or deliberately and BBQ s pose a high risk. Please leave the BBQ for the garden and take a picnic to the Hills instead.

Police patrols stepped up in Malvern Hills to catch barbed wire culprit

PATROLS at a popular county beauty spot have been upped after barbed wire was found placed across paths to harm visitors. We reported earlier in the week on an image - captured on the east side of Jubilee Hill - showing a long length of barbed wire stretched across a downhill path, which could snare a cyclist causing life-changing injuries. West Mercia Police said through their Malvern Cops Twitter account: “Bike and foot patrols [out on the hills], following reports of barbed wire left across bike tracks on the Malvern hills. “Anyone with information should call 101 with reference 0622 i 0703202.” Members of the public Facebook group Malvern Matters have been reacting to the wire - including one worried parent.
