Bonnie Pierson never envisioned a library career.
Her initial plans revolved around working in print media like magazines or newspapers, before a later interest developed in public relations work.
But a part-time job at the Elgin Public Library in the mid-1990s gave Pierson a taste of life in the library, one she returned to at the turn of the century in Bastrop and hasn’t left since.
On Jan. 11, Pierson’s library career entered a new chapter when she was announced as Bastrop’s new library director.
Pierson assumes the position after the November departure of Becca Sexton, who had served as director since July 2019.
