Your wedding is often considered to be one of the best days of your life, filled with confetti, cake, embarrassing relatives and lots of booze. And for many brides, one of the most important details of the day is their dress.
However, with the average UK dress size a size 16, and many bridal brands only stocking limited (read: smaller) size ranges, curvier brides-to-be can find themselves unable to buy their dream outfits. I’m not currently in the market for a wedding dress but even I’m excited by this week’s announcement that Vera Wang is now designing gowns for Pronovias, the Spanish wedding giant. It means the hitherto out-of-reach becomes accessible – and just as bigger weddings are back on the agenda.
Over the past 30 years, 71‑year-old Wang’s own label has become a Rolls-Royce of wedding dresses. Even if her sculpted, dramatic statements aren’t quite your personal style, you have to concede she’s a maestro of modern grandeur (she calls it “American couture”). Chosen by Victoria Beckham, Alicia Keys, Chelsea Clinton, Lily Aldridge and a clutch of the inevitable Kardashians on their wedding days, wearing Wang came with a hefty pricetag.
