The Chicago principal who faced criticism after reporting a Black mom to the Department of Children and Family Services after her 10-year-old son was picked up from school seven minutes after the district deadline has announced her immediate resignation.
Daniela Bylaitis, principal at Inter-American Magnet School, did not mention the controversial incident or the backlash that followed in a resignation email sent to the school community on Tuesday, April 27, but said she had chosen to transition to a “non-school-based role” at Chicago Public Schools.

Somerville parents’ fury over the city’s long-delayed school reopening plans boiled over at the Somerville School Committee’s contentious Feb. 8 meeting even as school officials confirmed they will deploy portable air filters to return students to classrooms sometime in the coming months.
“Realizing how close we are to the Rubicon and not wanting to disrupt the day of occupancy, we’re essentially mobilizing plan B through a mix of different methods,” Rich Raiche, the city’s director of infrastructure and asset management, told the committee.
The city currently owns about 150 portable air filters and has 100 more on order, Raiche said.
