BARRIE, ONT. The Simcoe Muskoka health unit lists seven active outbreaks in Simcoe County schools. Two new outbreaks are reported Tuesday at Barrie North Collegiate Institute and Our Lady of Grace Catholic School in Angus. There are also active outbreaks at St. Joseph s Catholic High School in Barrie, Bear Creek Secondary School in Barrie, Portage View Public School in Barrie, Nantyr Shores Secondary School in Innisfil and Bradford District High School. Barrie North Collegiate Institute notified parents of a new COVID-19 case at the school on Monday evening. One classroom is closed as a result. The classroom cohort affected is required to self-isolate for 14 days and monitor symptoms.
The health unit reports a new outbreak at St. Joseph s Catholic High School in Barrie. There are also active outbreaks at Bear Creek Secondary School in Barrie, Portage View Public School in Barrie, Steele Street Public School in Barrie, Nantyr Shores Secondary School in Innisfil and Bradford District High School. While Simcoe Muskoka moved to the red-control zone on Monday, the shift to stricter measures does not impact schools. All schools with active outbreaks remain open.

There are six positive cases and five classrooms closed as a result. The impacted class cohorts are required to self-isolate for 14 days. According to the health unit, an outbreak is declared when there are two or more lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in students or staff who share space or objects and where at least one case could have contracted the virus within the school environment. Bear Creek remains open. The public board has 15 schools listed Thursday with at least a single COVID-19 case.
