MACON, Ga. For decades, the Historic Macon Foundation has focused on restoring historic buildings, but these buildings can t be restored without one thing carpenters!
The foundation has hired a carpenter-in-residence who fixes up these buildings and homes, and they ll soon teach others how to do it too. It s part of a new trade initiative that they ll be launching soon.
Executive Director Ethiel Garlington says achieving their mission is only possible with the help of carpenters. About five years ago, when we were working on our last push in the Beall s Hill neighborhood, we had funding to do the houses, we were going to build new houses, we were going to rehab historic ones, he said.

MACON, Ga. Although the Beall’s Hill Neighborhood Association is strongly behind a new restaurant, nearby churches fought the project during Monday’s Macon-Bibb County Planning and Zoning Commission meeting.
In November, P&Z approved Robert Fisher’s plan to build Mamas Rogue Southern Cooking in the old Korner Kupboard building at 1182 Calhoun St. No one spoke against the project last fall.
