RIVIERA BEACH – For Glenda Neal, the murder of a 7-year-old boy Wednesday morning in Riviera Beach brought back painful memories.
Neal, whose 28-year-old son, Tommy Neal Jr., was killed in a January 2019 shooting just outside the city limit, said Wednesday s killing occurred only a few blocks from her home.
On Friday evening, she joined other families affected by gun violence for a community outreach event at Wells Recreation Center. Twenty-six Crime Stoppers posters displaying the names and faces of past victims of unsolved homicide cases in the city adorned the fence of a nearby recreation field.
Neal said she was lying in bed watching her security cameras early Wednesday when she noticed several emergency vehicles pass by her home. She later learned of the 7-year-old s murder.
RIVIERA BEACH – A 7-year-old boy was killed and his mother was injured while they were sleeping after someone shot into their home early Wednesday, according to city police.
During a press conference Wednesday afternoon outside the apartment building where the shooting took place, north of Blue Heron Boulevard, Riviera Beach Police Chief Nathan Osgood said the shooting was targeted, but it was unclear if the shooter knew there were children inside.
“We have a kid who would have been a future governor, future president, future doctor, lawyer, school teacher or news journalist who is not here today,” Osgood said.
No one is in custody at this time, but Osgood said detectives are working leads from those in the neighborhood and are looking into past incidents. The chief did not provide further details.
