PANAMA CITY BEACH With summer around the corner, the Beach Mosquito Control District is gearing up to tackle the inevitable increase of mosquitoes.
According to Director James Clauson, district employees have sprayed for adult mosquitoes about five times so far this year. He said that number soon will increase in the wake of a noticeable uptick in the local mosquito population caused by warmer weather and recent rainfall. In March we really didn t show a bunch and in February it was still kind of cold, said Clauson, who added the area was nearing peak mosquito season. When the temperatures get warmer, the days get longer . and we get this rain that we ve been getting, it speeds things up.
