There is big money on the line this weekend for the front runners in Baypark Speedway s all new signature event for the crowd pleasing midget cars.
The Baypark 50-lap midget car feature will be raced on Saturday night. The field, featuring New Zealand s best drivers, is set to battle for a $20,000 prize fund with $5000 awarded to the 50-lap victor.
The race will be the longest staged for any racing class at Baypark Speedway since the track opened in October 2001.

Auckland racer Gary Lonergan is proving to be the driver to beat in major stockcar events this summer.
Lonergan earned a convincing victory in the North Island Stockcar Championship at Baypark Speedway on Saturday, adding to an early-season win at the New Zealand Grand Prix and third placing at the recent New Zealand Championship.

As the heavy hitters of stockcar racing descend on Mount Maunganui s Baypark Speedway for the holiday weekend, the weight of numbers tips the scales in favour of Bay of Plenty success.
The 2021 North Island Stockcar Championship is a double-header attraction over two nights with 80 drivers filing entries to line up for tomorrow night s three-group qualifying format.
More than half the entries hail from either Rotorua or from Baypark s home track ranks, suggesting the title could become a Battle of the Bay by the time Saturday s finals hit the track.

Chris Cowling threaded the needle on a drive from mid-pack to complete a New Zealand Super Saloon Grand Prix hat-trick at Baypark Speedway on Saturday night.
Cowling, from Tauranga, started 11th in the 25-lap Grand Prix final and, after moving forward to join the lead battle, he leapt from third into the lead with a single move.
Nelson s Ian Burson and Tauranga s Scott Hayward were swapping the lead when Cowling split the pair. I d started to run the middle. Burs was on the bottom and Scotty moved up high so I was able to drive straight between the two of them, Cowling said.
