Meow, Monsieur! The French Felines of New Orleans is a memorial from a son to his father, said New Orleans author and Alexandria native Jim Gabour. During the last five months of Jimmie Gabour s life, his son kept him amused with different tales of the French-speaking cats.
The book features 20 stories of French-speaking cats living in New Orleans and how they and their humans relate to one another as they all go about their daily lives in the distinct neighborhoods that make up the city. New Orleans is also a character in the book which Gabour describes as a pretty peculiar little beastie.

Donnie Cayer died on Saturday after being hit by a retired Louisiana State Police trooper, 60-year-old David Brett Westmoreland, who later was charged with first-offense DWI, hit and run and vehicular homicide after his arrest by the Alexandria Police Department.
Cayer had been bicycling on the busy two-lane road with one of his sons on a trip to feed geese and ducks that frequent Bayou Robert and a pond that fronts the Tennyson Oaks subdivision. Donnie was a single father of two boys that he loved dearly. It is a great tragedy that the boys will grow up without their hardworking father, reads the fundraiser.
