We’ve all heard about it and perhaps read such stories in the news couples flying into the US and Canada to give birth in a bid to secure a new nationality for their child.
This week’s episode of ‘Bayat: A Solemn Promise’ introduces us to one such couple, Vikram and Zareena, who made a similar decision for their son and are now paying the price as the desperately look towards migrating to a new country. Their situation is a unique one. Zareena is a Pakistani, while Vikram is Indian. Unsure of how things would politically play out for their son, and in a bid to secure his future, they made the mistake of obtaining a birth nationality in Canada by duping authorities. Years later, the move has cost them a chance to immigrate to Canada.

The rivalry between India and Pakistan has been immortalised in modern history through books, literature and film. And the conflict, while being a constant irritant for both nations for more than seven decades, ever since India and Pakistan gained independence from foreign rule, has hurt the interests of their own citizens most who fervently wish that the conflict ends and both nations get to see eye to eye.
Fear is perhaps the one emotion that grounds most of us from taking that leap of faith. It is what has Blessica and Virgil on tenterhooks as they chart a plan for Australia but fear the complexities of the move.
Their story is the latest slice of reality that plays out in this next episode of ‘Bayat: A Solemn Promise’, with a young working-class couple who dare to dream big. Blessica is a nurse working in Dubai, who gets advice to visit Bayat Legal Services Image Credit: Gulf News
Blessica is a nurse working in Dubai, who is also supporting her husband who is studying to become a geologist some day. They have pinned their hopes on immigrating to Australia, where Blessica will continue to work in the medical sector, while Virgil, her husband, can finish his education and hopefully, find a job in the long run.

The trials and tribulations faced by working couples around the world are well documented. However, not much is known about those choosing to migrate to foreign lands, or the issues they face considering the topic of migration, though popular is not well researched.
The 3rd exclusive episode in the
Bayat franchise, therefore chooses to spotlight the same, referencing an ideal young couple with similar hopes and dreams of migrating to Australia from the UAE.
If you grew up in the UAE, chances are you would have found yourself in Ahmed’s shoes at some point, pleading with a parent to greenlight your plan to study overseas.
The next chapter in the ‘Bayat: A Solemn Promise’ series is a poignant tale that explores a father and son dynamic who are at opposite ends of a decision that could very well change their lives for the better.
Ahmed is a college-going youngster who is feeling the pressure as several of his friends are slowly moving away from the UAE, chasing their dreams to land them on the shores of Canada or the UK. Ahmed is your typical Arab teen, a homeboy at heart but one who is eager to follow suit with the permission of his father Mustafa.
