St Joe Co recommends Walton County not adopt mobility plan

SANTA ROSA BEACH  The St. Joe Co., a real estate development firm working on a massive 50-year project covering more than 100,000 acres straddling Walton and Bay counties, has weighed in with some criticism of how Walton County has developed a proposed mobility plan and fee that would affect the company s development plans. The Bay-Walton Sector plan, which broadly calls for construction of more than 100,000 residential units, millions of square feet of retail, commercial and industrial space, and conservation and preservation areas, has been approved in recent years by the governments of both counties. The potential impact of the Bay-Walton Sector Plan on the transportation infrastructure in Walton County has been a part of local discussions of the mobility plan, but that talk has been overshadowed by public concerns over a two-lane road proposed for the Point Washington State Forest and concerns in the business community over fee collection.

Tallahassee Memorial, FSU medical campus coming to Panama City Beach

FSU President John Thrasher updated the university’s Board of Trustees on the proposal last week, saying a joint proposal submitted in February had been accepted, allowing for planning to move forward. The health care campus is planned for an 87-acre parcel near State Highway 79 and Phillip Griffitts Sr. Parkway, close to the Latitude Margaritaville Watersound community. The letter of intent involves the three parties planning and developing the campus to initially include an ambulatory and urgent care center, according to the release. The land is being provided by the St. Joe Company. Groundbreaking could begin sometime next year. Future development includes building an Emergency Center and 100-bed inpatient medical center offering services such as gastroenterology, urology, gynecology, cardiology and general surgery among others.

Tour the new PCB Margaritaville community Nathan Cobb, The News Herald PANAMA CITY BEACH   Interested applicants can now tour Latitude Margaritaville Watersound before its homes hit the market in May.  Geared toward those 55 years old and older, the Jimmy Buffett-inspired community is being built along State 79 near its intersection with State 388 through a partnership between the St. Joe Company, Margaritaville Holdings and Minto Communities USA. While the area remained an active construction site Tuesday, the community s sales center and more than a dozen island-styled model homes were open to tour. The sales center featured beach-themed walkways that smelled of coconuts, as well as interactive monitors for guests to design their preferred home layout.
