Pastor suspected of defiling girl arrested after six days on the run

A Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) pastor has denied defiling a 14-year-old girl in Homa Bay County. Bernard Tambo Odhiambo, who is in charge of a church in Homa Bay East District, yesterday appeared before Homa Bay Senior Resident Magistrate Joy Wesonga.
In the first count, the pastor was accused of defiling the minor who is a Class Eight candidate. The court heard that Odhiambo intentionally and unlawfully had carnal knowledge of the girl at Nyalkinyi area on December 2. In the second count, the pastor was accused of committing an indecent act with a minor. He denied the charges and was released on Sh100,000 bond with a surety of similar amount. The case will be heard on January 11, next year.
Pastor Accused Of Defiling Minor Surrenders To Police
A Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church pastor accused of sexually assaulting a minor is in police custody at Homa Bay Police Station.
48-year-old Bernard Tambo, who is in-charge of Homa Bay East District comprising of 10 churches, surrendered to the police on Wednesday, December 9 after going into hiding for six days.
“The pastor has been underground but he surrendered this morning accompanied by his lawyer,” Homa Bay Sub-County Police Commander Sammy Koskey said.
The clergyman is said to have defiled a 14-year-old girl on Wednesday, December 2, in his residence within the church premises.
The class 8 pupil had been sent by one of her teachers to deliver some letters to the pastor when he lured her into the house and forced her into his bedroom where he had carnal knowledge of her.
