12:17 p.m., 700 block of Penfield Street
Citizen assist: A resident who called police to assist with the opening of a locked bathroom door suggested an officer bring a “Jimmy” to help facilitate the job. The officer said if a child or elderly person were trapped in the bathroom, fire-rescue would also respond because police aren’t equipped for such emergencies. The resident said no one was in the bathroom, so the officer recommended a calling a locksmith.
Dogs from out of town
2:12 p.m., 6400 block of Gulfside Drive
Dogs on the beach: A resident who did not wish to speak to a law enforcement officer called police to report several dogs on the beach. When the officer arrived, he found the visiting owners of two dogs who said they did not know dogs were prohibited from visiting the beach. The people apologized, gathered their pets and belongings and departed without incident.

2:36 a.m., 1200 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive
Suspicious person: While on patrol, an officer stopped to talk with a man sitting by the side of the road. The man said he had just gotten off work and was waiting for a bus, though bus service wouldn t be available for hours. A background check indicated no active warrants but the man was a registered sex offender. The officer activated his in-car camera and gave the man a ride to the mainland.

3:52 a.m., 100 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive
Suspicious vehicle: The owner of a vehicle parked after hours in a town park could not be immediately located. A check of the vehicle indicated no wants or warrants.
March 21
2:07 p.m., 2000 block of Harbourside Drive
Citizen dispute: Police came to a residential complex to sort out a dispute between a homeowners’ association representative and a resident who was moving out. The representative said the resident was in violation of community rules forbidding weekend moving. Additionally, third party personnel were removing property for the resident’s unit without anyone on hand to vouch for them. The representative said coordination needed to have taken place to better inform all parties about what was happening. Police verified the third party moving personnel and asked for a call-back if there was a disturbance.
10:34 a.m., 4700 block of GMD
Abandoned 911 call: Officer was dispatched to a resort for an abandoned 911 call. Prior to arrival, the front desk employee advised the child of one of the hotel guests was playing with the phone and did not need emergency services.
In the clear
11:54 a.m., 600 block of Broadway
Parking: An anonymous caller complained about illegal parking on the street. The officer found only one car parked on the block, and it had a parking permit.
Jump off a bridge
12:12 p.m., 6800 block of Pine Street
Juvenile problem: A caller said three males and a female were jumping off the Longboat Pass Bridge into the water and walked toward Greer Island. The officer searched the beach access area but was unable to locate the teens.
