Indie Basement: Top 40 Albums of 2020

Indie Basement: Top 40 Albums of 2020 It s a given that 2020 has been a year unlike any that most of us have ever experienced. Time seemed to fold in on itself (for me at least), and March to December seemed to go by in an instant but also in slow motion. If felt this way for music, too. Albums I thought were last year were this year and vice versa. Looking through the months, though, it was a bit shocking how many records I really liked were released and how many of these groups I wish I had gotten to see live this year.

Live4ever s Best Of 2020: A terrible year soundtracked by brilliant music

The Lounge Society by Piran Aston Well, that was a laugh wasn’t it? Officially The Worst Year Ever (at least we could drown our sorrows and sing aloud in 2016), 2020 has turned everyone’s lives upside down and still has the capacity to do so, but we know all this. It wasn’t just COVID-19 that caused such a year of great upheaval. In Sean Connery and Diego Maradona, the silver screen and the beautiful game lost legendary figures, so much so that we should perhaps start checking up on soon-to-be octogenarian Bob Dylan (although, given he’s now $300m richer, he’ll probably be alright). Meanwhile, in the UK the agonising, incessant stench of Brexit lingered on.

Forum | Albums of the year 2020 by Dubtractor

The only stand-out album for me this year is Point of No Return by Those Damn Crows. Great band who are brilliant live and managed to put out an album of absolute cracking tracks. Pity they didn t get to tour the album this year, but did manage to catch them in Bristol in February a couple of days after they released it and again at Planet Rock s Winter s End which turned out to be the last gig we went to prior to lockdown. Have to be honest, I m not a fan of tdc at all, but that s the joy of music for me - what one person loves another hates!
