the other smoke inhalation, the fire has been detained. it was not clear how started. an alarming number of high-school students in oakland are dropping out of school during their senior year. the state department of education said that more than 1100 seniors dropped out during the 2009/2010 school year. 37 percent of the total student nearly half of the dropouts were african-american and they say they re comparing that to just 37 white students that dropped out the same year. the naacp says that there is a long list of dropout rates. they include inadequate access to college preparatory class is one parent told us that her daughter has been waiting two years to enroll in a college preparatory class. i am an old school mother and i am trying to make sure that she stays on the right path so that she can go to college and not be a statistic. she was talking about her daughter serenity with a sophomore at oakland high. she says she is frustrated because this is her daughter
